A brief comment is given on the applications of energy in Japan, and the growth rates for energy consumption are projected. The effect of the energy consumption growth on the plans for nuclear power plants is discussed. Special emphasis is given to the application of nuclear heat to steel production, since this industry accounts for more than 20% of energy consumption in Japan
