Solid solutions in the InSb-HgTe system

Description
Solid solutions in the system InSb - HgTe are examined. Thermal and microstructural analyses methods are applied. The electric conductivity and the coefficient of the thermo-electromotive force have been measured within the temperature range of 20 to 170 deg C. It has been shown that the solid solutions based on InSb exist up to 10 mol.% HgTe, and on the basis of HgTe up to 5 mol.% InSb. The data obtained on the temperature dependence of electric conductivity show that the solid solutions possess the positive temperature coefficient and behave themselves as semiconductors. The type of the conductivity which has been determined according to the sign of the thermoelectromotive force, is electronic for all the alloys
