Description
In this article, we describe the electronic structure of the rare-earth (RE) ternary borides and the Chevrel phase molybdenum chalcogenide compounds and use the results obtained to discuss the origin of their magnetic and superconducting properties. This work is derived from extensive theoretical studies of the selfconsistent energy band structure of these compounds using state-of-the-art theoretical models (self-consistent local density and local spin density functional formalisms) on realistic representations of their crystalline structure in which all electrons and all (18 or 15) atoms per unit cell are included in a self-consistent scheme.
