Characterization of a soil x-rays fluorescence method and its relations with the plant-animal system

  • 1. Instituto de Investigaciones Agropecuarias Jorge Dimitrov, Bayamo (Cuba)

Description

The characterization of the soils pertaining to three parcels of the enterprise La Bayamesa was carried out using the x-ray fluorescence method in order to detect the deficit of minerals in this region. The total of determined elements was 32. Likewise, the relation of phosphorus, calcium, magnesium, sodium, potassium, copper, zinc and iron content with their levels in the analyzed pastures was established. The results frequently showed deficit level of copper, magnesium, phosphorus, and to a lesser extent of iron in the blood serum. Subnormal values mainly for the phosphorus, were observed in the pastures, while the calcium, magnesium, sodium, and potassium values were inferior to the reference values selected for these soils. Upon completion of these studies in rest of the cattle enterprises, they will serve as the basis to improve the specific mineral formula of the province, and also to make the maps of deficit elements in this region
