Description
Environmental impacts from anthropogenic activities remain significantly present in the atmosphere. A large part of these environmental impacts is attributable to the construction sector. This thesis was developed in the context of the ecological transition at the scale of Reunion Island. The objective of this work is to understand the factors of the environmental quality of buildings in an insular subtropical environment and to propose alternative approaches to these assessments. The environmental performance of buildings can allow a significant reduction of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions at both structural and functional scales. In this thesis, a first evaluation of the environmental impacts of the built single-family houses (SFH) allowed us to identify and define the total ratios while considering the representative share of the structural, functional, and end-of-life scales. For this, it was necessary to build a regional database that regionalizes the emission factors (EF) specific to the island. This holistic approach allowed us to highlight the environmental over cost of the island due to its geographical location. Furthermore, we considered another constraint: the impact of the local electricity production mix, which contributes strongly to the operational phase. For this purpose, a prospective approach was carried out through decarbonization scenarios and allowed to determine the decrease of the impact of local electricity generation for the next to 2040, thanks to the integration of new technologies. Finally, the local database having been primarily developed, two approaches, 'simplified' and 'synthesized', were proposed: the simplified approach was initiated to make LCA affordable to professionals so that they have simplified tools for evaluating their projects. Then, the synthesized approach (ICE) allowed us to simplify the information and propose an impact threshold applicable to the constructions in an insular environment. Finally, given all these works, we bring to the first light the importance of integrating a new paradigm of building sustainability. This definition must incorporate the capacity of the building recycling capacity. But it must be considered a short economic chain of revalorization at the scale of India-Oceania. (author)
Abstract (French)
Les impacts environnementaux emis par les activites anthropiques demeurent presents de facon significative dans l'atmosphere. Une large part de ces impacts environnementaux est attribuable au secteur de la construction. Cette these s'est construite dans la logique de la transition ecologique a l'echelle du territoire de La Reunion. L'objectif de ces travaux est de comprendre les facteurs de la qualite environnementale des batiments en milieu subtropical insulaire et de proposer des approches alternatives a ces evaluations. La performance environnementale des batis peut permettre une importante reduction des emissions de Gaz a Effet de Serre (GES) aussi bien a echelle structurelle que fonctionnelle. Dans cette these, une premiere evaluation des impacts environnementaux des maisons individuelles (MI) construites a permis d'identifier et de definir les ratios totaux tout en tenant compte de la part representative des echelles structurelle, fonctionnelle et fin de vie. Pour cela, il a ete necessaire de construire une base de donnees locale, qui regionalise les facteurs d'emissions (FE) specifique a l'ile. Cette approche holistique a permis de mettre en evidence le surcout environnemental que subit l'ile a cause de sa situation geographique. Une autre contrainte a egalement ete prise en compte: celle de l'impact de la production du mix electrique local qui contribue fortement en phase fonctionnelle. Pour cela, une approche prospective a ete effectuee a travers la realisation de scenarii de decarbonisation, et a permis de determiner la diminution de l'impact de la production electrique locale a horizon 2040, grace a l'integration de nouvelles technologies. Enfin, la base de donnees locale ayant ete largement developpee, deux approches 'simplifiee' et 'synthetisee' ont ete proposees: l'approche simplifiee a ete initiee pour rendre l'ACV accessible aux acteurs locaux et professionnels, afin que ces derniers disposent d'outils simplifies pour l'evaluation de leur projet. Puis, l'approche synthetisee (ICE) a permis de simplifier l'information et de proposer un seuil d'impact applicable aux constructions en milieu insulaire. Enfin, au vu de l'ensemble de ces travaux, nous apportons un premier eclairage sur l'importance de l'integration d'un nouveau paradigme de durabilite d'un batiment a travers sa redefinition, en tenant compte d'une economie verte autour de la valorisation des dechets du batiment a echelle de l'Indianoceanie.
