An overview is presented of the accumulated experience of the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) obtained from planning for and implementing physical decommissioning operations. The DOE decontamination and decommissioning organizational structure is described. Selected examples from relevant project activities are described in technology developments and environmental compliance activities.
