Hysterosalpingography and salpingitis isthmica nodosa

  • 1. Onze Lieve Vrouwe Gasthuis, Amsterdam (Netherlands)

Description

Over a period of 2 years five patients were seen with typical radiographic findings of salpingitis isthmica nodosa out of 212 cases of hysterosalpingography. The condition is characterized by small diverticula in the Fallopian tubes, generally localized in the isthmic portion and sometimes in the ampulla, unilaterally or bilaterally, and is frequently associated with hydrosalpinx. Salpingitis isthmica nodosa can be the cause of primary or secondary infertility and can increase the incidence of ectopic pregnancy. Recognition of this condition is therefore of importance. 11 refs.; 5 figs.; 2 tabs
