Mg-Y-Gd state diagram in magnesium-rich region

Methods of differential thermal, microstructural and X-ray analyses, as well as scanning electron microscopy were used to investigate into state diagram of Mg-Y-Gd (up to 28% Y and 36% Gd). It was established that single β phases, which represents solid solution of Mg24Y5 and Mg6Gd phases, is in equilibrium with magnesium solid solution. Liquidus isotherms of Mg-Y-Gd system were constructed. Isotherms of yttrium and gadolinium solubility in solid magnesium at 300, 400 and 00 deg C and the curve of maximal solubility of these elements in magnesium were constructed
