Growth bands in InSb-NiSb eutectic

  • 1. Institute of Nuclear Research, Warsaw (Poland)

Description

The InSb-1.8 wt% NiSb eutectic alloys were directionally solidified using the vertical Bridgman-type method, under the imposed temperature gradients from 15 to 150 0C/cm. The drive velocity of samples was 5 mm/h. Three kinds of the microstructure faults were observed: single-phase growth bands, two-phase growth bands and rapid changes in the needle spacing. The aligned structure free of growth bands was obtained in the sample for the imposed temperature gradient 150 0C/cm. (author)
