Device for storing radioactive materials emitting heat

Description

The device consists of a concrete case with incoming and outgoing air shafts for natural convection of a coolant and storage racks with horizontal shafts for containers with radioactive materials. The shafts are formed by pipes which have cooling fins and/or heat sinks and are provided with spacers. The surface of the pipes has the coolant flowing over it. The heat exchange surface of the pipes is larger than that of the stored material so that even with this indirect cooling, good heat removal is ensured. (PW)

Abstract (German)

Die Vorrichtung besteht aus einem Betongehaeuse mit Zu- und Abluftschaechten zur Naturkonvektion eines Kuehlmittels und Lagergestellen mit horizontal angeordneten Aufnahmeschaechten fuer Behaelter mit radioaktivem Material. Die Aufnahmeschaechte sind durch Rohre gebildet, welche Kuehlrippen und/oder Leitbleche besitzen und mit Abstandhaltern versehen sind. Die Oberflaeche der Rohre wird vom Kuehlmittel umstroemt. Die Waermetauscherflaeche der Rohre ist groesser als die des Lagergutes, so dass auch bei dieser indirekten Kuehlung eine gute Waermeabfuhr erreicht wird. (PW)
