Design features of the EPR
Description
The formal order to start the Basic Design of the EPR was signed on February 23, 1995, in Frankfurt, by EDF and nine German nuclear utilities. I am glad to have the opportunity today to report, in this conference, on the activities of Framatome, Siemens and their joint venture NPI, within the frame of the Franco-German cooperation which leads to the development of that next generation of PWRs in Europe. NPI, the joint subsidiary of Framatome and Siemens, started in 1990 with the development of the conceptual design for future PWRs and early 1992, EDF and a group of German Utilities decided together with the industry to merge their already own launched development lines with the NPI program which is now called the EPR Program, EPR standing for 'European Pressurized Water Reactor.
