Preparation of 134+137Cs gamma reference standard sources from liquid wastes at Madras Atomic Power Station

Description
Two gamma sources on disc geometry were prepared from nuclear waste water at Madras Atomic Power Station. These cesium sources were standardised. Results indicated that two sources are free from contamination of other radionuclides. Strength of the two gamma sources were found to be 67.05 kBq 137Cs + 5.92 kBq 134Cs. and 80.84 kBq 137Cs + 7.0 kBq 134Cs respectively, with an overall uncertainty of 1.6% at 1 sigma on the day of preparation. These two sources thus prepared can be used as a gamma reference standard sources for calibration purpose. (author)
