Description
Highlights: • Association between gastric cancer and proximity to industries was investigated. • Logistic regression models in a population-based multicase-control study were used. • Overall, no association was found with proximity to industries as a whole. • Specific associations found near chemical, surface treatment, and food industry. • Specific associations found near industries releasing nonylphenol and antimony. Gastric cancer is the fifth most frequent tumor worldwide. In Spain, it presents a large geographic variability in incidence, suggesting a possible role of environmental factors in its etiology. Therefore, epidemiologic research focused on environmental exposures is necessary.
