The Vela Double Glitch

Description
The Vela pulsar has been monitored almost daily since 1985 using the HartRAO 26 m antenna. During this time ten large glitches have been observed. In 1994 the Vela pulsar experienced two large glitches (Δν/ν = 8.61x10-7 and Δν/ν = 1.99x10-7) separated by only 32 days. The event is accompanied by typical transients in rotation frequency derivative (ν) although all of the long-term offset occurs at the first event and the rapidly-decaying transient is only seen with the second spin-up. We discuss the unique features of these glitches and show that they do not seem to fit in with the widely accepted creep theory of post-glitch recovery.
