A distance limit for NGC 7318B in Stephan's Quintet

Creators

  • 1. National Radio Astronomy Observatory, Charlottesville, Virginia

Description

Observations at 21 cm of NGC 7318B in Stephan's Quintet show that the H I flux from this galaxy is no more than 0.008 f.u. The resulting limit on MH1 is incompatible with a distance as small as 15 Mpc, which is the accepted distance of the low-redshift member of the Quintet, NGC 7320. Subject headings: galaxies, clusters of - redshifts - 21-cm radiation
