Local confinement in neutral beam heated JET discharges

Description
A database containing some 150 predominantly neutral beam heated discharges has been analysed. A scaling of the central ion temperature Ti(o) with Pnbi τE/N has been found (Pnbi is the beam power, τE the (diamagnetic) energy confinement time and N is the number of particles). The central confinement of hot ion H-mode plasmas is found to be much better than that of hot ion L-mode plasmas. Density profile peaking increases with Pnbi/N, reflecting the effect of beam fuelling. (author) 8 refs., 6 figs
