Ordering in vanadium carbonitrides

Description
Using neutron radiography, the structure of vanadium carbonitrides in the range of V8(C, N)7 compositions and of the effect of heat treatment upon the ordering in these carbonitrides have been studied. It was found that a cubic superstructure is formed in high-carbon specimens after a prolonged annealing in the range of temperatures between 600 and 1000 deg C. Increased relative content of nitrogen in carbonitride leads to instability of the superstructure
