Ileofemoral venous thrombosis in pregnancy - position of radionuclide venography
- 1. Fakultni Nemocnice, Plzen (Czechoslovakia)
Description
99mTc-MAA (microaggregate of human serum albumin) was used in a modified radionuclide venography method of examination of pregnant women with thromboembolism complications. The method offers information not only on the condition of the peripheral venous system but also on lung perfusion. In one examination, 60 to 120 MBq of the radiopharmaceutical was applied. At an average dose of 94 MBq the radiation burden was about 0.5 mSv for the fetus and 1 mSv for the mother. In view of the fact that during 24 hours only 0.145% of the radioactivity is secreted in mother's milk of which 94% within 15.5 hours, no radiation burden for the breast-fed infant results if feeding is ommitted for 24 hours, in case of examining breast-feeding mothers. Thus, the method proved to be noninvasive and sparing. The above examinations of 5 women during pregnancy and following delivery (a total of 16 scintiscans) had no adverse effect on the patients; all gave birth to healthy, matured offspring.
