Predicting flow accelerated corrosion (erosion-corrosion) damage in power plants with the BRT-Cicero code

  • 1. Electricite de France (EDF), 75 - Paris (France)

Description

The BRT-CICERO software has been developed to predict the FAC (Flow Accelerated Corrosion) process occurrence for long term operations, and to eliminate the risk of pipe ruptures; the BRT-CICERO algorithm takes into account a 15 years R and D program carried out in the EDF laboratories (CIROCO loop). The modelization and the validation program take into account the main factors influencing the FAC process, i.e.: the water chemistry effect, the effect of the hydrodynamic conditions, the effect of the steel composition, and the effect of the temperature (oxide porosity and both hydrogen diffusion through the oxide porosity and through the steel). 9 figs., 3 tabs
