Search for muonium - anti-muonium transitions in gold foils
Description
4.8 x 109 positive muons were incident on a target consisting of 16 2000A thick gold foils suspended in vacuum. The decay products were analyzed with spark chambers and magnets in a search for fast electrons which would be indicative of the reaction μ+e- → μ-e+. This report describes the details of the experiment and the setting of an upper limit of C/sub M-M/ < 5.4 C/sub v/, where C/sub M-M/ is a coupling constant characteristic of the decay process and C/sub v/ is the normal V-A coupling constant characteristic of beta decay
