New approaches to nuclear power development

The approaches are summed up to nuclear power development in the world. Nuclear power, which had to overcome a number of problems, still maintains its competitiveness with other sources of power. In the whole world its economic advantages improve and multiply with its irreplaceable role in the solution of ecological problems caused by fossil fuel combustion. The nuclear power development is also in agreement with the most obvious developmental trend of the current power generation in the world, i.e., shifting the centre of interest in power consumption towards electric power. Briefly described are updated nuclear programmes in the USA, the FRG, France, China, and the USSR and other CMEA member countries. (Z.M.)
