Storage method and storage facility for radioactive waste

Description

Radioactive wastes are disposed at a density initially determined based on an heat generation amount at the initial stage, and after elapse of a predetermined time, they are disposed at a density of a latter stage predetermined based on the heat generation amount at the time point which is higher than the density of the initial stage. In the storage method, the density of the latter stage is determined based on the heat generation amount at a stage when a predetermined period of time is passed and the heat generation amount of the radioactive wastes is reduced. Storage can be conducted at a density higher than the initial stage, so that a larger amount of radioactive wastes can be stored in the same facility compared with a case where the storage is continued at the density of the initial stage. As a method of changing the density of the storage, other radioactive wastes are disposed between radioactive wastes disposed at a density of the initial stage to provide a density of a latter stage. This method can minimize the transfer of radioactive wastes upon changing the density from the initial stage to the latter stage. (T.M.)
