Description
At TRIUMF in 1979 cyclotron availability approached 88 percent and 100 μA operation became routine. Tests showed a beam-energy resolution of 10-3 was possible and a trial run at a current of 150 μA on beam line 1 was successful. The integrated current delivered during the year was increased by a factor of over three. A new primary beam line, 1B, became available for use during polarized-beam operation, and the extraction of a 70-100 MeV beam was demonstrated. The nucleon-nucleon scattering program completed measurements for dewermining Wolfstein parameters at 200-500 MeV. Clinical tests in negative pion cancer therapy were started. Federal government funding increased from $10,513,000 in 1978-79 to $11,204,040 in 1979-80. (DN)
