Methodology for quality assurance of radiation protection monitoring instruments

  • 1. Radiation Safety Systems Division, Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Mumbai (India)

Description

Radiation protection monitoring instruments are required for ensuring safe radiation levels as well as for demonstrating compliance with the regulatory requirements. The type testing and periodic calibration of these instruments becomes very significant for ensuring reliable measurements and implementation of appropriate radiation protection measures. The type test requirements are recommended by International Standards like International Electrotechnical Commission (lEC), International Organisation for Standardization (ISO) for different types of radiation monitoring instruments. This work describes the methodology adopted to provide adequate confidence to the radiation protection program, focusing primarily on the monitoring of extemal radiation level in and around nuclear facility and radiation facility
