Description
A review of giant multipole resonances is presented, with the emphasis on the basic understanding of this phenomenon in general. Aspects of the earlier hydrodynamic models and the later microscopic models in terms of particle-hole excitations are discussed. Finally some aspects of the description of resonance widths and fine structure are dealt with
