Description
The diffusivity of protons and tritons in Nb between 130 K and 450 K has been determined from measurements of spin-spin and spin-lattice relaxation rates. It is concluded that in the α-phase the hydrogen nuclides diffuse by incoherent tunnelling mechanisms over the entire temperature range investigated. In the hydride phases the diffusivity decreases at each phase boundary with increasing order of the hydrogen in the lattice. The trapping of hydrogen at impurities, dislocations and hydride precipitates, and the interaction between hydrogen isotopes were identified. The effects associated with trapping and detrapping or with diffusion between the traps could be separated. (orig.)
Abstract (German)
(orig.)Additional details
