Round jet - experiment and inferences on turbulence modeling

Description

Hot-wire (HW) and burst-mode LDA measurements were made in the far field of a turbulent axisymmetric jet for the purpose of evaluating single-point closure models. Dissipation profiles inferred from these measurements were compared along with profiles obtained from spectral measurements and from solutions of a modeled dissipation equation. It was found that the LDA measurements closely satisfied integral and differential balance of the momentum equation, whereas the HW data did not. The LDA-measured fourth moments for the velocity are close to being Gaussian, thus validating a key assumption in formulating a closure model for the third moments. 22 references
