Electron and ion emission in collision of micron metallic particles at the 1-5km/s velocity with a solid surface

Description
Quantitative characteristics of electron and ion emissions during high-velocity shock of aluminium particles of micron sizes against different materials have been expirimentally investigated. Emitted electron charge constitutes approximately 1.7x10-16 for a tungsten target at a particle velocity of 2.6 km/s. Lower values of emitted charges (1.4-3 times) have been obtained using materials of lower specific density. Difference in values of electron and ion charges forming during the shock has been noted when analyzing measurement results. To explain the observed ratio between charges it can be suggested that besides a plasma mechanism other emission mechanisms, for example, mechanoemission and usual thermoelectron emission, resulting in the formation of an additional electron charge act during the shock. An approximated theoretical model earlier developed explains qualitatively the obtained experimental dependences, however does not permit to sufficiently exactly calculate values of emitted charges. Main reason of this is in accuracy of the theoretical evaluation of a particle material volume where thermal energy scattering occurs during the shock
