Description

The MACE Gamma ray Telescope has a 1088 pixel imaging camera for recording the few nanosecond duration Cherenkov light flashes produced by the interaction of very high energy particles or photons with the earth's atmosphere. The 2m x 2m x 1.6m size Camera, weighing 1300 kg has been designed with a modular structure of 68 Camera Integrated Modules (CIM). Each CIM weighing about 8.5 kg has 16 channels of instrumentation. The photomultipliers have compound Parabolic Concentrator (CPCs) fixed in front of them to enhance their light collection. The Camera is provided with motorized dual shutters in the front and manually operated shutters in the rear. The Camera housing has interfaces provided for fixing it to the 4 boom structure of 25m from the mirror surface. At zenith position, the Camera will be at a height of ∼45m from the ground. Each of 356 mirror panel of MACE Telescope is mounted with laser alignment assembly which will be used to align mirror panel during installation and maintenance. Each laser alignment assembly is capable of angular orientation of +/- 15 degree an acceptable deviation of 2mm laser spot at 50 metre distance (0.15 arc-second). (author)
