Life prediction of pressure vessel nozzles
Creators

Description
In high pressure vessels the nozzle zones are subjected to cyclic loads with subsequent repeated plastic strains that cause nucleation and propagation of fatigue cracks. It is possible to predict the life of this mechanical component in low-cycle fatigue by utilizing the life strain curves ε-Nf or the energy approach (plastic strain and total strain energy density). In this paper life predictions are performed by considering different approaches. The results are then compared with the experimental results obtained by fatigue testing pressure vessel nozzles. The material considered is steel Fe 510 B UNI 7070-72. (author)
