Electron angular flux comparison for smart and transport corrected scattering kernels
Description
Because the scattering cross section is so highly anisotropic, electrons tend to change direction after a large number of minute angular deflections. To be cost-effective, however, S/sub n/ and streaming ray (SR) descriptions of electron motion must use relatively few (typically 12) discrete directions. On initial consideration, it therefore seems that a direct simulation of electron scattering is not feasible. To circumvent this difficulty, a comparatively small number of relatively large deflections can be used. This is accomplished through the use of effective scattering kernels, which render the transport equation amenable to numerical solution and lead to sufficiently accurate results for the electron flux
