Synthesis and characterization of the superconducting products in the Y(Sc)-Ba(Sr)-Cu-O system

Powdered samples and single crystals prepared in the (Y1-xScx)Ba1-xSrx)2Cu3O7-δ system for x = 0.05 - 0.4 were found polyphasic for all values of x. Strontium substitutes for barium in the superconducting compound YBa2Cu3O7-δ but no doubly substituted (Y,Sc)-(Ba,Sr) phase was found, in contrast with reports in the literature.
