Considerations on the statistical description of charged-beam plasmas

  • 1. Scuola Normale Superiore di Pisa, Pisa (Italy)

Description

The paper is organized as follows: in Section 2, the authors recall the relation between the N-particle distribution function and the density phi and discuss the main characteristics of the beam plasma; Section 3 contains a short description of the forces acting on the beam; in Section 4 they write down the F-P equation and briefly discuss the effects giving rise to stochastic forces. They then apply the theory sketched in the previous sections to a few specific examples: radiation damping and quantum effects; intra-beam scattering; beam-beam interaction; stochastic cooling; and a few tentative conclusions
