Multicycle modes of the weapon plutonium deep burning in blanket of accelerator-driven systems
- 1. State Scientific Centre, Moscow (Russian Federation). Inst. of Theoretical and Experimental Physics
Description
Modes are investigated in which the long-time burning of weapon-grade plutonium and produced americium and curium isotopes is carried out. The ADS blanket is considered with nearly thermal neutron spectrum and various neutron fluxes from 1014 up to 1016 cm-2s-1. Nuclides concentrations from Pu-239 up to Cm-248, activity and radiotoxicity are calculated. It is shown that for effective plutonium burning the neutron flux density of the order of 1014 cm-2s-1 is sufficient. However for effective burning of minor actinides produced from plutonium it is required the irradiation in high-flux blanket with flux of the order of 5 x 1015 cm-2s-1. 3 tabs
