Description
Objective: To investigate whether immunological adaptive response could be induced by low dose radiation. Methods: The following techniques were employed in this experiment: 3H-TdR incorporation for lymphocyte proliferation, a bioassay with CTLL cells for IL-2 activity, flow cytometry (FCM) for subsets and receptor expression of lymphocytes by their immunofluorescence stained with monoclonal antibodies, PI staining and FCM for cell cycle and apoptosis, sandwich ELISA for sIL-2R, fura-2AM loading for [Ca2+]i, and a formula for doubling time of cells in culture. Results: Suppressive effects of immune functions by challenge dose could be reduced by low dose pre-irradiation. Conclusion: Multiple immunological adaptive responses could be induced by low dose radiation
