Calibration of boron ionization chambers indicating the power of the pile, through a reactivity measure
Description
The multiplication factor of a subcritical pile is measured. Knowing the mass of uranium contained in the medium, the number of fissions produced per unit of time is derived, and thus the power. A neutron detector can be calibrated to indicate the power. The energy produced by spontaneous fissions in uranium is determined within 7 pc. Reprint of a paper published in 'Comptes Rendus des Seances de l'Academie des Sciences', t. 236, sitting of Mar 23, 1953, p. 1251-1252.
Abstract (French)
On mesure le facteur de multiplication d'une pile sous-critique. Connaissant la masse d'uranium contenue dans le milieu, on en deduit le nombre de fissions produites par unite de temps, donc la puissance. On peut alors calibrer un detecteur de neutrons servant a indiquer la puissance.
