Threshold Cherenkov counter of the 4π detector installation

Description
Results of performance testing the Cherenkov threshold counter intended for studies in the joined experiment (Russia-Germany) on nucleus-nucleus interactions are presented. Application of water radiator with addition of spectrum shifter made it possible to obtain light yield of 2.5 photoelectrons at the distance of 2.6 m from the cathode by the radiator thickness of 3 cm. Information readout from two ends of the counter enables effective identification of pions (the total light yield of 5 photoelectrons). The study results indicate the possibility of creating the Cherenkov extended counters with high degree of efficiency for operation in the range of the particle secondary pulses ≤1 GeV/s
