First double polarization measurements towards the test of the Gerasimov-Drell-Hearn sum rule

  • 1. Institut fuer Experimentalphysik der Ruhr-Universitaet Bochum Universitaetsstr. 150, 44780 Bochum (Germany)

Description

The helicity dependence of photon induced reactions on the proton has been measured in the energy range from 200 up to 800 MeV for the first time. The experiments have been performed at the Mainz accelerator facility MAMI. A 4π detector system, a circularly polarized tagged photon beam and a newly developed polarized solid target have been used. The data obtained provide new information for multipole analyses of pion photoproduction and give contributions to the Gerasimov-Drell-Hearn (GDH) sum rule and the forward spin polarizability γ0
