System for reducing consequences of a failure in a nuclear power plant

Description

A system for pressure suppression after a loss-of-coolant accident is described. The reactor containment consists of two wells connected by a channel. The first well encloses amongst others the pressure vessel and the primary coolant circuit. In the connecting channel there are one or several steam condensers. In the event of a loss-of-coolant accident, the mixture of air and steam is passed with the aid of the condensers through non-return valves into the second well, thus reducing the pressure in the containment. Additionally, a spray system, installed in the first well, operates until the whole steam is condensed
