Comparative investigations of characteristics of various TL dosimeters. Pt. 2. Low dose measurements

  • 1. Institute of Nuclear Physics, Krakow (Poland)

Description

Solid dosimeters containing Mg2SiO4:Tb, CaSO4:Dy, and LiF of different provenience were investigated comparatively in the dose range of 0.3 - 100 mrads with regard to their long term background and response behaviour, for the purpose of field applications. Although the luminescence yield of the investigated phosphors differs by a factor higher than thirty, their background was equivalent to 0.6 mrad for CaSO4; Dy and TLD-100, 1 mrad for LiF sintered discs, and 2 mrad for Mg2SiO4:Tb. Since in routine field measurements the dosimeters cannot be completely protected against external agents, the more stable LiF dosimeters give more reproducible and accurate results, although they require a more stable and sensitive reader.
