Influence of n-electron-donor additives on the direct iodination of akylbenzenes and fluoranthene

  • 1. S.M. Kirov Tomsk Polytechnic Institute

Description

This paper investigates the direct iodination of mesitylene, durene, and fluoranthene, and also of chlorobenzene, benzoic acid, and toluene, in presence of DMF, dioxane, and THF. Iodic and periodic acids, potassium permanganate, and nitric acid were used as oxidants. It was found after qualitative spectral measurements that the addition of n-electron donors to the iodinating system prevents the complex formation of iodine with the aromatic substrate. Dioxane does not cause a substantial shift in the spectra, but when added to the system before the substrate, it prevents the formation of the complex of the arene with iodine
