Description

A study was made into influence of titanium, boron and nitrogen microadditions on mechanical properties and mechanism of ductile-brittle transition in low alloy steel 40KhN. Preliminary annealed test specimens were quenched from 820 or 1100 deg C and then tempered within the temperature range of 200 to 600 deg C for 1 h. Tensile and bend properties, impact strength, the temperature of ductile-brittle transition, stress intensity factor, internal friction and relaxation effect were determined during mechanical testing. The analysis of test results allowed to conclude that steel microalloying increases the resistance to brittle fracture by lowering the tendency to formation of local microstresses in metal under loading. 13 refs., 4 figs., 1 tab
