Results of percutaneous abscess drainage

Description
Between 1978 and 1983 fifty-two abdominal abscesses in 44 patients were drained percutaneously, 79% of the abscesses occurred as postoperative complications. The overall success rate was 60%, whereas only 42% of left subphrenic abscesses were cured. Complications were encountered in 4.5%. Reasons for drainage failures were: liver sequestration, loculation, fistulae and recurrences. Percutaneous abscess drainage in an alternative, and valuable addition, to surgery. (orig.)
Abstract (German)
In den Jahren 1978 bis 1982 wurden bei 44 Patienten 52 perkutane abdominale Abszessdrainagen vorgenommen. Die Abszesse waren in 79% als postoperative Komplikationen aufgetreten. Die Ausheilungsrate betrug insgesamt 60%, wobei die linksseitigen subphrenischen Abszesse mit 42% die unguenstigsten Ergebnisse aufweisen. Komplikationen fanden sich in 4,5%. Die Ursachen fuer Therapieversager waren: Lebersequester, geklammerte Abszesse, Fisteln und Rezidive. Die perkutane Abszessdrainage stellt eine Alternative und wertvolle Ergaenzung zur septischen Chirurgie dar. (orig.)Additional details
