Reduction with trichlorosilane, 8

  • 1. Radiation Center of Osaka Prefecture, Sakai (Japan)

Description

Under γ irradiation, trichlorosilane was found to add to methyl methoxyacetate. Resulting adduct, CH3OCH2CH (OSiCl3) OCH3, was converted to 1-chloro- 1, 2-dimethoxyethane, CH3OCH2CHClOCH3, on warming with trichlorosilane. This chloride was further reduced to 1,2-dimethoxyethane with trichlorosilane under γ irradiation. These results support the three step mechanism (ester → adduct → α-chloro ether → ether) which we have presented for the reduction of esters with trichlorosilane. (author)
