Report of the experimental work on operating conditions of Saturne performed by the S.O.C. with the continuous help of the S.E.F.S. during the past year
Description
This document reports measurements of characteristics of the Saturne synchrotron. The most important measurements are wavelengths of horizontal and vertical betatron oscillations (or wave number per lap). Other measurements concern the closed orbit, or the adjustment which aims a better reproducibility of operation conditions and a quicker start-up. Another set of measurements concerns the intensity increase, machine behaviour in resonance, coupling of horizontal and vertical oscillations, and wavelength variation with respect to the field index. The report also addresses the progress of transformation of Saturne for 4 GeV, and intensity limitations which can be reached
Abstract (French)
Ce travail comporte des mesures de caracteristiques de la machine dont les plus importantes sont les longueurs d'onde des oscillations betatron horizontale et verticale, ou nombres d'ondes par tour. En effet, dans un synchrotron, et particulierement un synchrotron conventionnel, la majorite des caracteristiques s'expriment essentiellement en fonction de ces nombres d'ondes. D'autres mesures concernent l'orbite fermee. D'autres ont rapport a la mise au point du fonctionnement et visent a donner a la machine une plus grande constance, une meilleure reproductibilite des conditions de fonctionnement et a permettre une mise en route plus rapide. Certaines mesures de mise au point concernent le centrage de l'orbite fermee. Une troisieme categorie de mesures a trait a l'augmentation de l'intensite. Nous avons fait aussi des mesures speciales concernant: - le comportement de la machine quand elle est en resonance, - le couplage des oscillations verticale et horizontale, - la variation de la longueur d'onde avec l'indice du champ. Cet expose comportera, de plus, quelques details sur l'etat d'avancement de la transformation de Saturne pour 4 GeV, ainsi que quelques remarques sur les limites d'intensite que l'on peut atteindre avec Saturne.
