Effects of irradiation on the differentiation pathway of bone resorbing cells
- 1. Rijksuniversiteit Leiden (Netherlands). Lab. voor celbiologie en histologie
Description
The present study was designed to obtain more insight in the osteoclast (OC) differentiation pathway and the radiation effects thereupon using histochemical detection of the osteoclastic acid phosphatase activity in embryonic long bones. The authors describe the identification of the periosteal mononuclear pre-OC's, displaying tartrate-resistant enzyme activity. Additionally, the effects of irradiation on the pre-OC kinetics in relation to the formation of multinucleated OC's in embryonic long bones in vitro was described. (Auth.)
