GKSS collision tests
Description
The aim of the tests was to develop collision protection for large scale nuclear powered vessels. The scale principles and the experimental procedure used are surveyed. A model law for ship collisions is given; scale interference effects and temperature are considered. Bow patterns and protective structure thickness were tested using models and the results given; these can be applied to real ships. Protection of the collision partner may also be effected by means of a soft bow although the present work does not cover this. (UK)
