Description

From at the end of 1994 (beginning of activities), and after interviewing a sample of 66 producers, five farms were selected, among which only two of them were monitored. The same ones will be identified in this summary as farm 1 and farm 2. As the producers had already registered the dates of deliveries, this information was used with the one gathered by the investigation team for the calculations of deliveries intervals and the estimation of some delivery - conception (vacuums days or open days) intervals. It was in May 1995 when the monitoring could properly been started. The farms were visited twice a month, to make the milk toll, to register deliveries information, sanity problems, flock management, feed crops offer, and, in general, any important event. Every two months a gynecological revision was made to evaluate the reproductive status of females. The farm 1 don't overcome the average of 2,6 lts / cow / day, not even in the best moment of the year (May). The genotype of this herd is predominantly zebu and there is a sparse feed crops offer. The intervals between deliveries (IBD) in the two deliveries females was of 588 days, and in those with more than two deliveries it was of 423,5 days (80 deliveries registered in two and a half years). The farm 2 in its best moment (June) just overcomed the four lts / cow / day and the IBD was of 462 days, without being able to discriminate among the two deliveries females and the several deliveries ones (208 deliveries in four and a half years). The farm surface is bigger, its feed crops offer is higher and with more milky genes
