Description

Highlights: • Emissivity of molten titanium was measured over wide wavelength. • Spectral emissivity showed negative wavelength dependence (from 0.7 to 6.0 μm) • Heat capacity of liquid titanium also was obtained. • Measured heat capacity showed good agreements with reference data. -- Abstract: A titanium sample was levitated in an electrostatic levitator and its spectral hemispherical emissivity at its melting temperature was measured by spectrometers over a wide wavelength range. The total hemispherical emissivity of titanium at its melting temperature calculated by integrating the spectral hemispherical emissivity was found to be 0.33. Also, the constant pressure heat capacity of liquid titanium was calculated to be 44.9 J mol−1 K−1 at 1943 K.
