Description
The magnetic coupling in a [Dy(35 A)/Er(11 A)]x90 superlattice has been studied by neutron scattering experiments and magnetization measurements. Basal plane helical ordering, coherent through initially paramagnetic Er layers, appears in the Dy layers for a temperature close to the ordering temperature of bulk Dy. At low temperature a ferromagnetic arrangement between the Dy layers is observed, instead of antiferromagnetic stacking in superlattices with thicker Er layers. ((orig.))
